Optimizing Recovery After Breast Cancer Surgery with Class IV Laser Therapy
An exciting application of Class IV Laser Therapy is helping patients recover after surgery. In our experience, laser therapy can significantly reduce post-surgical pain, often helping patients decrease or discontinue prescription pain medications much sooner than expected. Many patients report needing pain medication for only a day or two after beginning laser treatments.
Beyond pain relief, we frequently see improvements in the healing process itself. While every patient heals at their own pace, many report less discomfort, improved mobility, and a smoother recovery.
When Heidi came in following her breast cancer surgery, we understood we would need to consult with her oncologist since laser therapy should not be performed over areas of active cancer. After receiving confirmation that she was cancer-free and cleared for treatment, we incorporated Class IV Laser Therapy into her post-surgical recovery plan.
Heidi’s experience highlights how combining traditional medical care with evidence-based supportive therapies can help patients feel better, recover faster, and return to their normal lives sooner.
Here is Heidi’s story in her own words:
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in October of 2025. The diagnosis left me feeling overwhelmed and scared. After my double mastectomy in December of 2025, my entire focus was on my recovery and getting myself — and my body — back to as close to normal as possible.
During this period, I went to get a regular chiropractic treatment at Hosmer Chiropractic Health. During my appointment, I was surprised to learn that the Hosmer chiropractic team could support my body’s recovery with an innovative therapy: Class IV Laser Therapy.
I’ve always believed in combining conventional medicine with complementary therapies when appropriate, so I was very interested in seeing if laser therapy could help. After Dr. Hosmer consulted with my oncologist, we received the go ahead to proceed with laser therapy treatment.
During my treatments, I often felt a gentle warmth and tingling sensation in the areas being treated. It truly felt like something magical was happening inside my body as the laser warmed the tissues. While everyone’s experience is different, I personally felt that the laser treatments sped up my healing and helped me feel more connected to my body’s recovery.
A few days after surgery, I was able to stop taking my pain medication, and I attribute this to the laser therapy sessions I had been receiving.
Of course, my surgical team and traditional medical care were essential parts of my cancer treatment, but I am grateful that I was able to implement laser therapy during my recovery. I genuinely feel it helped accelerate my healing and greatly improved my overall sense of well-being during a very challenging chapter of my life.
I’m incredibly thankful for the team at Hosmer. Their willingness to incorporate innovative therapies, combined with their genuine compassion and individualized care, made me feel supported, heard, and hopeful throughout my recovery. For anyone looking to complement their traditional medical care with a thoughtful, patient-centered approach to healing (an approach that might “fill in the blanks of western medicine”), I would highly recommend checking out Hosmer Chiropractic Health!
A Team Approach to Recovery
Heidi’s experience highlights the potential benefits of combining traditional medical care with supportive, healing therapies. While surgery and oncology care were the foundation of her treatment, Class IV Laser Therapy provided an additional tool to help manage pain and support the recovery process.
Although every patient heals differently, many people who receive laser therapy after surgery report less discomfort, reduced reliance on pain medication, and a quicker return to normal activities. By improving circulation, reducing inflammation, and supporting tissue repair, laser treatment can help create an environment that promotes healing.
At Hosmer, we believe the best outcomes often come from collaboration. That’s why we work closely with patients and their medical providers to ensure that every treatment plan is safe, appropriate, and tailored to the individual’s needs.
