Peripheral neuropathy after chemotherapy can feel defeating. Burning. Tingling. Pain from simple pressure. Numbness in your feet that makes walking uncomfortable. And for many patients, the most discouraging part is being told: “It may be permanent.”

This was the reality long-time Hosmer patient Renee S. faced.

The Problem: Painful Chemo Neuropathy in Both Feet

After undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer, Renee developed post-chemotherapy peripheral neuropathy in both feet.

She experienced:

  • Pain with normal pressure
  • Altered sensation
  • Ongoing discomfort with daily activity
  • Frustration after already enduring months of cancer treatment

Like many patients with chemo-induced neuropathy, she was told the symptoms could last indefinitely.

She wasn’t ready to accept that.

“I was told the neuropathy in my feet is often permanent. After doing the Class IV laser treatments, I have 95% back in my left foot and about 90% in my right — just six months after my last chemo treatment.” – Renee S.

Our Approach to Neuropathy Treatment

When Renee came in, her exam showed something important: Her strength was normal.

That meant the nerves weren’t dead; they were irritated and hypersensitive.

Instead of masking symptoms, we created a structured care plan designed to:

  • Calm nerve irritation
  • Improve circulation
  • Reduce inflammation
  • Support nerve recovery

Her treatment included a combination of therapies — including Therapeutic Class IV Laser — delivered consistently over several months.

Renee completed 30 treatments between January and August of 2024, gradually tapering care as symptoms improved.

The Treatment Outcome

Six months after starting care, Renee reported:

  • 95% improvement in her left foot
  • 90% improvement in her right foot

But here’s what matters even more:

We followed up 18 months after her final treatment.

Her update:

  • 98% improvement in both feet
  • Rarely notices symptoms
  • No ongoing treatment needed

No maintenance. No regression. No chronic decline.

For a condition often labeled “permanent,” this outcome is significant.

Is Post-Chemotherapy Neuropathy Always Permanent?

Not necessarily.

While every case is different, the type of chemotherapy, symptoms duration, and overall nerve health all matter.

What Renee’s case shows is this:

If the nerve still has functional capacity, meaningful improvement is possible.

And the sooner it’s addressed, the better.

Are You Experiencing Chemo Neuropathy in Your Feet?

You may be a candidate for care if you’re experiencing:

  • Burning or tingling in your feet
  • Pain from light touch or pressure
  • Persistent numbness
  • Balance changes
  • Ongoing symptoms months after chemotherapy

You do not have to simply “wait and see.”

“If I could give 10 stars, I would.” – Renee S.
