From the Vault: SI Joint Foam Roller Mobilization

Some exercises stand the test of time.

This month, we’re reaching back into our YouTube video vault to showcase one of Dr. Seth Hosmer’s original exercise videos from 2014. (Yes … he seems to be channeling Doogie Howser, MD for the chiropractor set!)

There’s good reason we’re bringing this one back. With more than 212,000 views, it’s the second most-watched video on our YouTube channel — and it’s still one of the exercises our providers recommend today for many patients experiencing SI joint stiffness and discomfort.

One of those patients is Neil, who came to Hosmer Chiropractic Health after living with chronic lower back pain for years. As part of his personalized care plan, Dr. Tylor Justin incorporated this SI Joint Foam Roller exercise to help improve mobility and support recovery between visits. You can read more about Neil’s journey in his patient story.

If you’ve been dealing with pain around your lower back, pelvis, or the back of your hip, this simple foam roller technique may help improve mobility in the sacroiliac (SI) joint and reduce stiffness.

In this video, Dr. Hosmer demonstrates:

  • How to locate the SI joint
  • How to position a foam roller correctly
  • How to identify which side may be restricted
  • How long to hold the mobilization for the best results
  • A simple finishing stretch to complete the exercise

As with all rehabilitation exercises, move slowly and gently. If you’re unsure whether this exercise is appropriate for your condition, talk with your Hosmer Chiropractic Health provider before trying it.

Watch the video and see why it’s been helping patients for more than a decade.
